A Workshop for Local Officials on Managing Development in Floodplains
12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at the Special Events Building, Clive Aquatic Center, 1801 NW 114th Street, Clive, Iowa.
One of the keys to reducing flood losses is to properly manage new development in the floodplain. All cities and counties must abide by the floodplain management requirements of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and — if they are participating in the National Flood Insurance Program — the rules and regulations of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The workshop will cover floodplain mapping, regulatory standards and the administrative procedures that comprise an effective floodplain management program. These topics will be reviewed through presentations, discussions and practical exercises.
All participants will receive copies of the DNR’s Floodplain Management Desk Reference and its accompanying Ready Reference
Floodplain Management Workshop Brochure
Registration
There is no fee for this workshop, but registration is required. The workshop is limited to 35 people. The deadline to register is August 21, 2015.
