The Freight Plan is a regional plan that examines how the existing freight system impacts Central Iowa. The MPO has a long history of freight, and where the updated Freight Plan differs from previous efforts is it looks into how goods are moved rather than what goods are moved. MPO staff worked with a freight working group to ensure the plan’s accuracy and representativeness of the system within the MPO planning area.
Background:
The MPO’s freight plan will inform the update of the region’s long-range transportation plan, Mobilizing Tomorrow. Specifically the plan will provide updated freight data and freight-related insights. This is accomplished through a review of existing conditions, a conducted safety analysis, and the identification of planning considerations.
