Three designated committees form the structure of the MPO: the Transportation Technical Committee (TTC), the Executive Committee, and the MPO Policy Committee.

MPO Policy Committee
The MPO Policy Committee – often referred to simply as the MPO – usually meets on the third Thursday of the month, nine months of the year. Open to the public, meetings begin at 4 p.m. and are held in the Burnham Room at the MPO office, located at 420 Watson Powell, Suite 200, in Des Moines, Iowa 50309. Dates and times are subject to change.
The Policy Committee receives recommendations from the TTC and the Executive Committee before taking formal action on transportation issues.
The 2026 meeting schedule is as follows: January 22, February 19, March 12, April 16, May 21, June 18, August 20, September 17, October 15, November 19. No meetings are scheduled for July or December.

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee meets on the first Thursday of each month. Open to the public, meetings begin at 11:30 a.m. and are held in the Burnham Room at the MPO office, located at 420 Watson Powell, Suite 200, in Des Moines, Iowa 50309. Dates and times are subject to change.
The 2026 schedule is as follows: January 8, February 5, March 5, April 2, May 7, June 11, August 6, September 3, October 1, and November 5. No meetings are being held in July or December.
The Executive Committee receives technical guidance and recommendations from the Transportation Technical Committee. The Executive Committee then offers its recommendations to the MPO Policy Committee. Executive Committee representatives also serve on the MPO Policy Committee.
