Public opinion sought on long-range transportation projects

Residents of Greater Des Moines are invited to share their opinions on more than 200 transportation projects that could be eligible for federal funding over the next 30 years.

The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is in the process of updating Mobilizing Tomorrow, the long-range transportation plan (LRTP) for the Greater Des Moines region. The plan is significant because transportation projects need to be listed in the plan to be eligible for federal funding.

“The future of our region’s transportation system is fast upon us, and now is the time to weigh in,” MPO Executive Director Dylan Mullenix said.

Most of the projects proposed for Mobilizing Tomorrow would improve the region’s street network, with proposed street and bridge improvements in nearly every city and county in the region. The projects also include improvements to the bicycle and pedestrian networks, as well as the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority’s planned new Operations and Maintenance Facility.
